ORIFICE PLATE

Orifice plates are the most common devices used for differential pressure flow measurement. They consist of a thin plate with a hole, placed in a pipe between orifice flanges unions. When a fluid passes through the orifice, its pressure slightly builds up upstream. However, as the fluid converges to pass through the hole, the velocity increases, and the fluid pressure decreases. They can be applied to a wide range of liquids and gases and are compatible with various fluids, including liquids, gases, and steam. Orifice plates operate based on Bernoulli's equation, where the pressure difference between the upstream and downstream sides is proportional to the flow rate. This pressure difference can be converted to an electric signal for flow measurement. Additionally, orifice plates offer a high level of accuracy at the lowest cost and have a long lifespan without requiring specific maintenance or experiencing wear out failure. All nominal sizes are available in accordance with relevant standards, covering sizes from 1/2” ~ 48” (larger sizes available upon request). Installation should be done in a straight run of a pipe to avoid turbulence at any angle from horizontal to vertical.
Types:
-Concentric Square Edged Orifice Plate: This design represents the majority of plates used in all orifice-based devices and is intended for general applications with clean liquids and gases. In this instance, which provides high accuracy, the orifice bore is located in the precise center of the plat
-RTJ type Orifice Plate: This type is ideal for high-temperature and high-pressure applications and is suggested for use with clean liquids, gases, and low-velocity steam flows. Additionally, it features an integrated gasket for easy mounting between ring-type joint flanges.
- Conical Entrance Orifice Plate: This version has a beveled leading edge with a short cylindrical section and should be installed with the bevel facing upstream. The conical entrance orifice plate is the optimal selection for liquids with a low Reynolds number to minimize the impact of fluid viscosity on the flow profile.
- Quarter circle or Quadrant Edged Orifice Plate: It features a unique bore design, with the upstream side resembling a flow nozzle and the downstream side functioning as a sharp-edged orifice plate, ideal for measuring high viscosity fluid flow.
- Eccentric Orifice Plate: This off-center orifice plate is useful for measuring fluids with suspended solid particles. It is less precise than concentric orifice plates. Nonetheless, for small pipe diameters, an eccentric orifice plate is a superior choice compared to a segmental orifice plate.
- Segmental Orifice Plate: This orifice plate contains a hole that is a segment of a concentric circle. Typically utilized for measuring liquids or gases with non-abrasive impurities, such as in sewage treatment, steel, chemical, and petrochemical industries.
Each type of orifice plate has a specific application depending on the fluid and flow conditions. The selection of orifice plate type is determined by the particular needs of the flow measurement application.
